Hays County VINELink Transition

The familiar VINELink search phrase now points to a new Texas structure. On September 1, 2025, Texas moved county service from VINE to Texas IVSS-Counties. The Attorney General said existing registrations were migrated. Hays County directs users to this service for booking, release, court-event change, death, escape, and transfer-to-TDCJ notices.

County and state custody do not share one registration path. Texas IVSS-Counties follows a person held by Hays County Jail. The separate TDCJ IVSS portal covers prison, parole, and mandatory supervision. A county registration should not be assumed to follow a transfer into Kyle Unit or another TDCJ facility.

IVSS is a notification system, not a certified release archive. Hays says roster disappearance means release from Hays custody, but the destination still needs research. TDCJ transfer, another jail, federal custody, and community release can all remove a person from the county roster.

Search One Hays County Inmate

Use the custody path to choose the portal before entering a name. A Hays booking belongs in the county system. A person who entered TDCJ belongs in the state system. Exact identifiers reduce the risk of confusing people with similar names.

1. Open the current county portal and choose Texas, Hays County, or the relevant facility as the live interface directs.
2. Enter the requested name or identifier. Use the full legal name and a booking or offender number when available.
3. Compare each result with the known facility, booking episode, age or birth information, and case dates.
4. Open the individual record and read the current custody or facility status. Save the time of the check.
5. If the person transferred to TDCJ, repeat the search in the separate state portal and official offender search.
6. If no result appears, call Hays at 512-393-7800, search Odyssey Jail Records, or request the booking and release sheet.

A no-result does not prove that no custody occurred. It can reflect spelling, lag, an outage, release from the visible period, or movement to another system. The Hays released-inmates search provides the court and records-request fallback.

Note: Match facility and identifiers before registering, since a common name can return more than one person.

Hays IVSS Release Fields

The live interface determines the exact fields. Research verified the service categories but did not establish an indefinite post-release display. Record only what the portal shows, and do not convert an alert into a release reason or destination.

TDCJ offender detail is the better source for projected or scheduled prison-release fields. A future date predicts processing and is not a completed release. BOP and ICE use their own locators, so neither IVSS portal should be used for federal or immigration custody.

Register Hays Release Notifications

The current service offers text, phone, and email options, preference management, blackout dates or hours, and one-time registration. Registration must follow the fields on the live screen. Do not assume the old telephone PIN process still applies.

1. Open the correctly matched person record in Texas IVSS-Counties.
2. Select notification registration and choose the events offered for that record.
3. Provide the phone number or email address requested by the interface.
4. Complete the displayed verification, whether it uses an account, code, password, or another method.
5. Save the confirmation and review contact preferences and blackout settings.
6. When an alert arrives, confirm status with Hays Jail Records or the receiving agency.

The former VINE brochure required telephone users to create a four-digit PIN and enter it with the pound key to stop repeated calls. That is historical guidance only. The current IVSS screen controls. Migrated users were told to update passwords, so an old VINE credential may not work as expected.

Hays IVSS Limits and Checks

An alert depends on the source agency's data and can lag. It does not guarantee safety, certify the release time, explain the legal basis, or identify the next custodian. A missed alert is not proof that a person remains confined. Call the jail during an outage and use the official record afterward.

For county release, verify the roster departure, Odyssey Jail Records, and the Hays booking and release sheet. For state release, open the TDCJ offender detail and distinguish Projected Release Date from completed status. BOP's locator may show Released or Not in BOP Custody. ICE ODLS has a limited recent-release function. Those federal results do not flow through IVSS.

Texas IVSS support is 866-268-8959. Hays directs outage questions to 512-393-7800. Save the alert and time, then ask the originating office for the official custody record.

Hays County IVSS Outage Path

Hays adds a direct local layer to the statewide service. The county describes continuous English and Spanish notification access, registration by phone or email, notice before release, and a jail-call fallback. That local direction is important when the portal is down or a person cannot be found.

The Hays Jail Questions and Answers page is the source for the fallback. Call the published jail number, identify the person carefully, and ask only for releasable custody status. Follow with Odyssey or a records request if a durable release time and type are needed.

Notification may arrive before a physical exit is complete. Bond, records checks, property processing, another hold, or a receiving agency can affect timing. Use the alert to begin verification, not to announce that the person is free in the community. A later records request can supply the release time and type when maintained and releasable.

Save the alert text, sender, and time. Those details can help Hays staff identify the reported event during an outage. They do not substitute for a booking number or official record. When a transfer alert names TDCJ, switch to TDCJ IVSS and offender detail instead of waiting for more county notices.

Note: A Hays release alert reports a change from one source and cannot settle custody in every other system.
